Magnesium Phosphate
The short version
Magnesium phosphate salts — anti-caking, supplement fortifier, and mineral source.

Where it comes from
Produced by neutralizing phosphoric acid with magnesium hydroxide or carbonate. Available as the mono-, di-, and tri-magnesium salts. Naturally occurring as the mineral newberyite (di-form) in some bone tissue.
How it's used
Used as an anti-caking agent in powdered supplements and salt blends, as a magnesium fortifier in infant formula and supplements, and as a stabilizer in instant beverage powders. Contributes to total added-phosphate intake.
Safety profile
ADI of 40 mg/kg body weight (combined added phosphates, EFSA 2019). Magnesium contribution can offer a small benefit; phosphate fraction stacks against the cumulative added-phosphate concern.
Physical & chemical properties
White crystalline powder. Sparingly soluble in water (much less than sodium or potassium phosphates). Stable in storage.
Regulation worldwide
Permitted globally with maximum levels per category. Combined with all other added phosphates against the cumulative ADI.
