Sodium Ethylparaben
The short version
The sodium salt of ethylparaben — restricted in the EU since 2006 because of endocrine concerns.

Where it comes from
Produced by neutralizing ethyl p-hydroxybenzoate with sodium hydroxide. The sodium salt improves water solubility relative to the free paraben.
How it's used
Use is restricted in the EU and several other jurisdictions to specific decorative-food and supplement applications. The narrower-than-historic permission reflects the 2006 paraben re-evaluation. Common in cosmetics globally (a separate regulatory regime).
Safety profile
ADI of 0–10 mg/kg body weight (combined methyl + ethyl parabens + their sodium salts, EFSA 2004). Weakly estrogen-receptor active in vitro at high concentrations — the human-dietary relevance remains debated. Considered lower-risk than the de-listed propyl and butyl forms.

White crystalline powder. Soluble in water; effective at pH 3–8 (wider than benzoates). Heat-stable.
